25th June, 1950:- Communist North Korea invaded the independent southern half of this divided nation at dawn today. The invasion came without warning. Troops and tanks stormed over the frontier, while landing craft sailed down the east coast to land troops behind the South Korean lines, and planes attacked the airfield at Seoul, the southern capital. Within a few hours the Northern army had crossed the 38th Parallel, the agreed border between the two States, and had occupied all the territory north of the Imjin River. Their Russian supplied tanks are already only 12 miles from the capital.
