a peculiar president

. from the quill of Antisthenes

Different states have different rules and unless you are Born in the USA, you can’t be a president thereof. There is nothing much to be concerned about, I never wanted to be the one anyway. In normal times, nobody worries. When the question of the Obama’s birthplace was raised, I shrugged my shoulders. Americans sometimes, maybe too often for my taste, come up with even stranger matters. But strange things do happen. In 1994 Tom Clancy writes about a civilian airliner hitting the Capitol (Debt of Honour) and voila – it does not take long for a few adherents of the peaceful religion to try the same in triplicate.

Still; I thought that the Manchurian Candidate (a 1959 book by Richard Condon, filmed in 1962 and again in 2004) theory is unlikely, and if correct , we’d find out when it would be far too late to do anything about it. Something puzzled me though; why would the presidential candidate and later the President spend so much money (and whose money) on lawyers to fight numerous court actions instead of just producing that confounded birth certificate? I admit I did not really think too much about it, but I was wondering who would act that way. What sort of a human being? Some arrogant USSR apparatchik? Unlikely. They had a highly developed sense of danger. A trained agent or his GRU control? Laughable. A Chinese secret service general with his contempt for mental faculties of other races? Slightly more likely. The closes explanation for so arrogant and illogical behavior would be a paperback / Hollywood stereotype of a black pimp or an Arab slave trader. I stress I never met any such and all my knowledge is the second hand which means I could be very much wrong.

Then came Donald Trump with his money, ego and ambition; and suddenly a scanned copy of the Barack Hussein Obama ‘long form birth certificate’ surfaced. The media breathed with a relief – the debate is closed. (Have you noticed how the left media love to close debates?) And then yesterday I looked on the Luboš Motl’s blog -

I strongly recommend it to you, and I hope you would do the simple tests suggested. PDF of the certificate can be downloaded from the White House website. (Yesterday you still could.) For further work, if you want to do the detective work yourself, apparently some programme called Nickel or Chrome is the best. In any case, we can relax, it is just an amateurish attempt. It seems that the belated and the left-media celebrated birth certificate is not a professional forgery. So it is not KGB or GRU, not to mention Mossad. Even the Chinese would have to do a better job. Then again, how long does an average Made in China computer lasts? Or a hammer?

This is as far I got a few days ago (05-07-11). Then, to make sure, I looked on the Luboš’s blog again, and there he was, apologizing for a mistake. Apparently some Russian expert worked those things a long time ago, and the suspicious peculiarities are just computer program peculiarities, not necessarily fraudulent. Fine, so I APOLOGISE also. Still, there seem to be discrepancies in that birth certificate not easily explained by computerish foibles. Read the whole thing again . Now, was Luboš Motl visited by those familiar friendly men in gray suits and mirrored sunglasses, arriving in de riguer black helicopters who told him that accepting the obscure Russian explanation would be better for his health?

[I admit I have not read as yet the Aaron Klein’s Manchurian President. My local library is in the process of acquiring it.]

In another , probably unrelated development on the 6th July a Hawaiian court issued a subpoena to the Department of Health to produce the original of the Hussein’s birth certificate. A great achievement for the US justice and for the speedy thinking of “birthers”.

Of course, the real question is not where Obama was born, but – Why ?

About Antisthenes

A Greek philosopher, a pupil of Socrates. Led a revolt, with Diogenes, against the demands of the city-state and the sophistication of life. Accepted the interrelation of knowledge, virtue, and happiness; and sought the ideal condition for happiness in return to primitivism and self-sufficiency. Rejected all social distinctions as based on convention, scorned orthodox religion as a fabrication of lies, and studied early legends and animal life in order to arrive at a true understanding of natural law. The individual was free and self-sufficient when he was master of his passions, secure in his intelligence, impervious to social or religious demands, and satisfied with the poverty of a mendicant. Needless to say, a person who on the Fog of Chaos adopted the Athenian philosopher's name has nothing whatsoever in common with him.
