20th July, 1952 : Restive Italian immigrants, bored by six weeks of idleness since their arrival in the Bonegilla migrant centre, are planning to march to Canberra if Federal Cabinet does not find work for them. They rejected suggestions that they were planning violent protests, and objected to troops being put on alert after they sent a deputation to the Minister for Immigration, Harold Holt, during his visit to Albury.
