NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN (ALMOST)

12th August, 1959 : Just before two blacks, Jefferson Thomas and Elizabeth Eckford were about to enter Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, this morning, 200 demonstrators marched on the building. They were part of a 1,000 strong crowd which gathered on the State Capitol at dawn to protest against desegregation. In defiance of the court order, Governor Orval Faubus told them: ”I am with you all the way.” It was this school that President Eisenhower sent the federal troops in 1957.
