NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN (ALMOST)

14th August, 1958 : The advent of television in Australia less than two years ago has had a disastrous impact on the country’s picture theatres. In the past year in Victoria alone, the appeal of the small screen in the living room has caused theatre attendance to drop by 5.5 million. The Cinematograph Exhibitors’ Association says suburban theatres are worst hit and many operators are desperate.
