…from the quill of Antishenes
The media struggle with the explanations for the summer uprising of the oppressed in Great Britain and elsewhere, like in France or Chile. There is some confusion in what to call the participants. Those in the centre call them “ferals”, whilst the “progressive” side seems to be undecided and, surprisingly divided. I would suggest to them the time-proven stand-by – “the freedom fighters”, for it is clear that the underlying ideology of the so far unseen Leaders of Looting is Marxism – redistribution of property using violence and terrorising any possible opposition.
I’m sure that most of my readers subscribe to the New Internationalist or at least read it on a regular basis. If you belong to the NI target readership then, of course, you steal it from the nearest defenceless pensioner and use it to set fire to his or somebody else’s property. Only joking. The real target audience of New Internationalist are the semi-educated, sexually and intellectually frustrated people, such as teachers, public servants, university personnel, etc. People who want to feel good without any financial, emotional or Marx forbid, physical risk. People who would like to believe they are environmentally “aware”, socially conscious, compassionate and who want to destroy what they can’t comprehend. Of course, they would not get involved in the arson and pillage personally. That could involve some risk, albeit, in our politically correct justice system only minimal. But they could get mugged themselves by their comrades in the class struggle.
The New Internationalist of March 2011 devoted three pages (out of 38) to a debate under the title “Is it OK for protesters to damage property?” Certain Philippe Duhamel for NO and Merrick Godhaven was arguing for YES. Comrade (NO) Duhamel’s two problems were government agents provocateur and possible unfavourable publicity. He wrote: “Are there acts of property damage I support? You mention GM crops and the sabotage of destructive equipment. The four Seeds of Hope Ploughshares women who did $2.4 million damage to a Hawk jet bound for East Timor – I’m with that. The Drax resisters who planned to shut down a coal power station? I’m with that too.”
A nicely moderate response in a moderately main-stream magazine. I know that the British looters do not read NI and that they probably can’t read, thanks to theirs NI – reading teachers. But the irresponsibly destructive mentality seeps down to them.
Nevertheless, I do not think we in Australia have to worry about large scale chaos, riots, arson, looting, i.e. redistribution of property by violent means. We have already elected the ferals.
