NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN (ALMOST)

20th August, 1937 : The infantile paralysis epidemic that has taken hold in Australia and New Zealand shows no signs of abating. Victoria has been so far the worst affected, although cases have been reported in New Zealand and Queensland. Nine people, including three adults, have so far died in Victoria and more than 200 cases have been identified. The State Government has taken steps to isolate affected areas and set up a special council to deal with the problem.
