26/ remember

26th August, 1940 : Berlin was shaken this morning by a British bombing raid as the RAF struck back swiftly for the attack on London at the weekend. British planes flew over the city for nearly three hours dropping bombs and propaganda leaflets. The Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, personally ordered the raid as a morale-boosting physical and psychological revenge for the first Luftwaffe bomb attack on London. The aircraft went over in two waves and all returned safely.
