30th September, 1916 : Sydney police have arrested four members of the militant reformist movement, Industrial Workers of the World. The four, with eight other members of the movement are expected to face charges of conspiring to excite sedition; to commit arson; and to secure the release of one of their members from prison. The IWW, a pseudo-socialist group founded in Chicago, is committed to the destruction of capitalist society and uniting all workers.
