NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN (ALMOST)

5th November, 1956 : Royal Marine Commandos brought ashore by naval helicopters are battling their way into the centre of Port Said in fierce house-to-house encounters with the Egyptian defenders. The French, watched by a large crowd of seemingly untroubled Egyptian civilians, landed at Port Fuad and are pressing south. The Marine landings came after a successful paratroop assault on Gamel military airfield outside Port Said.
