NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN (ALMOST)

12th November, 1982 : From his place of detention in a State-owned hunting lodge in Eastern Poland, Lech Walesa, the Solidarity leader wrote to General Jaruzelski. The time had come, he said to “reach some kind of understanding”. Today, four days later, Walesa is a free man after almost a year in detention. He says he gave no promises to the authorities and is surprised by his release.
