13th December, 1918 : The Australian Governor General today dismissed the Minister for Trade and Customs, Jens Jensen, on the advice of the Acting Prime Minister. The unprecedented sacking followed Mr Jensen’s refusal to resign over findings of the Royal Commission on the administration of the Defence and Navy Departments. The Royal Commission exonerated Mr Jensen, but found that purchases made under his Ministry were unsatisfactory. The Commission also examined payments made to Senator Long, from Tasmania, by the vendors of a wireless station bought for the Navy under Mr Jensen’s Ministry.
