NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN (ALMOST)
15th December, 1927 : The Nationalist Government today ordered immediate closure of the Soviet Consulate in Shanghai as General Chiang Kai-shek’s troops began rounding up Communists in the city.. The Consul-General, Mr Kozlovsky, has been given his passport and ordered to leave by the first available boat. The Soviet Dal Bank will also be shut, as well as other Russian commercial bodies. The expulsion follows the attempted Communist coup in Canton. Mr C C Wu, the Foreign Minister, accused the Soviets of giving support to the plotters. In Peking 13 Russians have been shot for their revolutionary activities.
