NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN (ALMOST)

21st December, 1906 : It is 100 years since the first consignment of fine merino wool, weighing 245 lb., was shipped off to England, where its great quality caused wide interest. Today, Australia is one of the world’s major wool grovers, production having more than quadrupled from 150 million lb. in 1870 to 650 million lb. this year. Wheat was also a big export earner in a record year for Australian trade, with earnings of £68,717,000.
