NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN (ALMOST)

24th December, 1931 : In one of the most dramatic events in history of Federal politics, the Scullin Labor Government has been defeated in the House by the adjourned motion of one of its own members, J A Beasley, a leader of the rebel group that supports the Lange plan for economic reconstruction. The Lang group has been described by the ALP president, A A Calwell as “renegades in an unholy alliance with reactionaries”,but even so, Scullin has to seek a dissolution of the House. An election will be held next month.
