NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN (ALMOST)
30th January, 1982 : The decision by the Tasmanian Labor Government to dam the Franklin River, in the south-west of the State, looks likely to intensify what has already been a bitter struggle. Conservationists
have fought doggedly against the Hydro-Eletric Commission dam project in the delicate and rare wilderness country of the south-west, and said today that they would take their fight to Canberra. Tasmania needs money or permission to borrow from the Loans Council before it can proceed with the bilion dollar project and the Federal Government is coming under growing pressure to intervene on the issue.
