9th February, 1929 : Mr A Bleakley, the Chief Protector of Aborigines in Queensland, has advised the Federal Government to set up a separate State in northern Australia. His report said land already occupied by tribes there should be set aside for them and others wanting to join. After a time with a white administrator, the State would become self-governing and be represented in Parliament. Spokesmen for the Government said, however, that a native State would be problematic, given the blacks’ tendency “to wander about the country”.

[So racist! Let Bromberg to deal with them!]
