5th April, 1950 : The continuing communal violence between Hindus and Moslems in India and Pakistan has brought the two countries together to agree on a “Bill of Rights for minorities”. It will apply especially to those pockets of minorities left behind in the bloody migrations after partition. Surrounded by hostile people of a different faith, these minorities fall victim to sudden, murderous attacks and live constantly in fear. Today’s agreement is aimed at removing this fear, thus enabling the different communities to live in peace.

[A great success over there; and thus obviously inspiration for the Australian advocates of “Bill of Rights”]
