NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN (ALMOST)

23rd April, 1984 : The discovery of the AIDS virus was announced in Washington today by Margaret Heckler, the US Health and Human Services Secretary. She hoped that a blood test would be available in six months and a vaccine ready for testing in two years. American and French scientists have been searching separately for the virus.
