april memories / 26

26th April, 1952 : French forces yesterday moved decisively to smash the Viet Minh resistance base 75 miles to the north-west of Saigon. Six thousand men were involved in a two-pronged attack into heavily forested hill country north of Tay Ninh, home of the Viet Minh HQ in the area. Jean le Tourneau, the French Minister Resident in Indo-China, said today that France would ask the United Nations to intervene if Communist China actively entered the war. Should the Communists win Indo-China, the whole of southern Asia would be ripe for conquest.

[Not decisively enough unfortunately. Today, the Chinese vasal states comprise the most of southern Asia]
