Paul Keating

12th June, 1971 : Delegates to the NSW ALP Congress stood and cheered when the Party voted to readmit disgraced former NSW Premier Jack Lang after an absence of almost 30 years. Lang – “the Big Fella” – was expelled in 1943 after voting against ALP policy in Federal Parliament. In 1932 he had been removed from office by the NSW Governor, Sir Philip Game. The motion to readmit Lang came from the youngest Labor member in Federal Parliament, Mr Paul Keating.
