june memories / 20

20th June, 1965 : President Ben Bella, the ill-fated Algerian leader jailed for years by the French, is tonight a prisoner again in a Sahara outpost. His coup coincided with the arrival of Third World leaders for a jamboree planned to glorify Ben Bella’s foreign policy.
