…from the quill of Antisthenes the Younger
From the time immemorial inconvenient speech has been a problem for those wishing to rule. Totalitarians of all persuasions, socialists both national and international, befuddled adherents of misunderstood religions, and recently semi-educated environmentalists strive to suppress free publication of both facts and opinions by those reluctant to accept that a group of people, believing themselves to be enlightened, chosen or just smarter than everybody else, should decide what can be said or written.
In Australia, Messrs Conroy, Bromberg and Finkelstein are the notorious vanguard of the Left, insidiously and assiduously working towards the totalitarian society. They already cowed the journalists such as Andrew Bolt and Tim Blair though not yet Piers Akerman – see Doomed government applies a full-court press out of spite.
The would-be dictators benefit by the overwhelming apathy of the public, and from restricting to abolishing free speech and then to abolishing free election are only small steps. Germany of 1933 is, or at least ought to be, a frightening example; not a template. Australian Federal elections have to be held, assuming our Bromberg judiciary does not interpret the law differently, by November 2013, so the salivating totalitarians still have enough time. Muzzled media, some manufactured crisis, a riot here or there (ALP already has some experience in fomenting riots -Sensible shoes next time, Julia) and the public will accept the demise of democracy as meekly as it has accepted Gillard/Brown CO2 tax. Final solution of the Left’s electoral problems temptingly beckons.
