…from the quill of Antisthenes the Younger
One has to admire Putin’s manipulative skills, undoubtedly honed by his long and faithful service in the KGB, which, needless to say, now serves him under a different name. Some very strange things are going on in Russia [Fog of Chaos – Putin in charge] while the world’s media concentrates on pussies, a subject of which they are only slightly less ignorant. Putin’s Pussies provide the necessary distraction. Contrary to some “experts” comments, they do no damage whatsoever to Russia’s human rights reputation. A rotten egg can’t get any rottener.
The red (forgive the pun) herring was selected carefully. The church building
itself, Cathedral of Christ the Saviour is well know, being one of the few in Moscow not destroyed by Stalin, Putin’s guiding light. Even foreign correspondents know where it is. The name probably came from a James Bond movie Goldfinger also familiar to Western journalists. Manipulation of the gold market, subject of the movie, could be Putin’s secret joke.
The Pussy Riot stunt pleased anti-Russian Orthodox people, anti-Church people, anti-Christian people and anti-religion primitive people generally, who form a significant fraction of population both in Russia and in the West. They probably form majority of Western media, another great plus for Putin.
On the other hand, the religious people may have been placated by the relatively harsh prison sentences, imposed by Putin’s judiciary. Perhaps not; I do not know how far Christian forgiveness goes in cases of blatant blasphemy.
Then there are those relatively reasonable people, who do not approve of insults to other people’s beliefs, who would not approve of a strip show in Auschwitz or of a hamburger stand in Mecca. So Putin has no problem there.
As far I was able to see, the childish exhibition was entirely devoid of any artistic merit, but for that alone a sentence of imprisonment may be just a tad too much. If the same standard was applied in Australia, hardly any taxpayer supported “artist” would be at large.
So called human rights activists, thanks to Amnesty International and other organisations sell-out to the Left, are not taken seriously by the remaining few genuine human rights’ people. In any case, a Presidential pardon after a decent interval and Putin will be a hero again.
Undoubtedly, upon their release, the Pussy Riot heroines will stage their next stunt in a mosque. (Only joking; that could hurt)
All in all, win-win for the forces of darkness.
And talking about the forces of darkness back at home, our Prime Minister has a lot to learn. When Gillard organises a stunt, she has to run for her life [Australian PM runs from her voters and Sensible shoes next time, Julia], thought she is getting better. For example, the “security scare” distraction* at her press conference on 23rd August, 2012 though not needed, as no journalist asked any inconvenient questions, (her operative’s mobile phone probably was not working) showed good thinking on her or her puppet masters’ part.
*/ a hypothesis only. No doubt some fearless Australian journalist will follow it up
