NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN (ALMOST)
3rd November, 1904 : Japan was engaged in the struggle with Russia in the interests of civilisation, peace and the progress of the world, Japanese Consul, Mr Iwasaki, told a luncheon in Sydney today in honour of the Mikado’s birthday. In regard to what had been described as the “Yellow Peril”, he said those fears were groundless. Japan, he said, had never been an aggressive race. On the contrary, history showed the Japanese to have been essentially a peace-lowing people. They had far longer periods of unbroken peace than any western nation which he had read of.
