Pretty plan

…from the quill of Antisthenes the Younger

Messrs John Roskam, James Paterson and Chris Berg of the Institute of Public Affairs have offered one hundred ideas to reshape Australia, practically guaranteed to antagonise 47% of Australian voters. [IPA – Ideas for Tony Abbott]

Many suggestions are so obviously correct that they do not require much thought; everybody worried about Australia’s future must have considered them in detail already : 1,2,3,4,6,8,9,10,14,15,17,20, 22, 25, 34, 37, 38, 39, 40,41 and 50. Oh, definitely 50.

No 5 became irrelevant and I would like it to be replaced by the following: Australia resigns from the United Nations.

Those who may worry that the ideas package may be akin to throwing a baby out with the dirty water may rest assured – the baby of democracy had drown a long time ago.

Further, there is absolutely no chance that Caesar Abbott- Brutus Turnbull fragile duumvirate would include even one tenth of these proposals in the Coalition rhetoric, not to mention attempted to legislate if in power. A new, genuinely conservative party would be needed for that. The current lot is gutless, venal and amoral.

Still, we can dream:

1 Repeal the carbon tax, and don’t replace it. It will be one thing to remove the burden of the carbon tax from the Australian economy. But if it is just replaced by another costly scheme, most of the benefits will be undone.

2 Abolish the Department of Climate Change
