10th December, 1933 : Communist rebels are still active in many parts of Spain following their weekend attempt to seize power. More than 100 people have died, 27 of them in the destruction of the Barcelona-Seville express. A mine was placed on the line where it crosses a ravine near Valencia; when the express detonated it, several carriages crashed onto the rocks below. It seems that the Communists were infuriated by the success of the conservative parties in the recent election and made a desperate bid for power; in the process they have done terrible things. There is fighting everywhere and tonight Granada is lit by the glare of its burning churches.

[Socialists, fascists and communists do not like the elections they can not control.]
