NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN (ALMOST)

21st December, 1916 : In this Christmas season it can be seen that war does in some ways bring benefits; in this case through the creativity of Australian toy makers. When German goods were shut out of Australia in 1914, the emporiums had to call France, America and Japan to the rescue. This year there is a profusion of Australian novelties, first among them being aeroplanes and rocking horses.

[Would it take a war to stop the flood of those shoddy Chinese toys?]
