Fully sick

…from the quill of Antisthenes the Younger

I recall a TV ad a long time ago, where some sportsman or an actor was spruiking overpriced processed food for children. It went like this – The child did not want eat the stuff and his mother rang that sportsman or whoever for an advice, as mothers are wont to. As far as I remember, he said,”Tell him it’s fully sick”.  She did and the child started eating like a piranha on steroids. Now admen claim they know what they are doing, and some may be sometimes right. Perhaps the advertisement worked, though for a life of me I could not see why. My ability to read and write could be the handicap.

It occurred to me that the Australian Labor, chronically short of intelligent voters and devoid of original ideas (most of their propaganda is straight from relics like Dr Goebbels and McTernan) could use the concept in their election campaign. Imagine: some admired sportsman, who is close to Labor philosophy, say Lance Armstrong, looking sincerely into the camera, saying –

Vote ALP – It’s fully sick!

About Antisthenes

A Greek philosopher, a pupil of Socrates. Led a revolt, with Diogenes, against the demands of the city-state and the sophistication of life. Accepted the interrelation of knowledge, virtue, and happiness; and sought the ideal condition for happiness in return to primitivism and self-sufficiency. Rejected all social distinctions as based on convention, scorned orthodox religion as a fabrication of lies, and studied early legends and animal life in order to arrive at a true understanding of natural law. The individual was free and self-sufficient when he was master of his passions, secure in his intelligence, impervious to social or religious demands, and satisfied with the poverty of a mendicant. Needless to say, a person who on the Fog of Chaos adopted the Athenian philosopher's name has nothing whatsoever in common with him.
