14th February, 1941 : In a lightning advance, the Imperial Army of the Nile has virtually chased the Italians out of Cyrenaica. The highlight of the last few weeks fighting was the fall of the important port of Benghazi to the Australian 6th Division. The victory caps a string of successes for the Australians in particular and the Commonwealth forces in general in the Middle East. In other news, Italian Somaliland appears to be on the verge of collapsing as Empire troops encircle the key town of Keren. With Marshal Rodolfo Graziani’s forces in full flight in Libya, the vanguard of Hitler’s relief force, to be know as the Afrika Korps, has arrived in Tripoli. It remains to be seen what difference the Germans, under Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, will make.
