1st May, 1953 : Twenty-two British prisoners of war flew into RAF Lyneham, Wiltshire, today after a 10,000 mile, seven-day flight home. A large cheering crowd gathered to to greet the men, four of whom were still on stretchers, as the aircraft landed. Some of the men, heroes of the Gloucester Regiment’s historic stand at the Imjin River in April 1951, had been in prison for more than two years. All wore the blue flash of the American Presidential Citation.
