4th May, 1970 : Women taking the contraceptive Pill have been warned not to use brands with a high oestrogen content. The warning, from the Australian Drug Evaluation Committee, follows months of controversy in Britain and America over the link between oestrogen and blood clots. Australian women are among the highest users of the Pill in the world – about 750,000 Australian women use it as their contraceptive. The concern is over brands with more than 75 grams of oestrogen, which British scientists say is the level at which the risk of clots becomes significant.
