NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN (ALMOST)

28th May, 1902 : The American inventor Thomas Alva Edison today announced the invention of a new electrical storage battery which is lighter than the lead-acid type of batteries and also last longer. The battery is made up of nickel and iron in an alkaline solution, and according to Edison its applications are greater than those of the older type, and will enable the electric motor car to remain a fully viable competitor for the petroleum-powered vehicles. Edison numbers the phonograph and the electric light bulb among his long list of inventions.

[What! No government grant? Impossible.]
