4th June, 1987 : Michael and Lindy Chamberlain have been pardoned by the Northern Territory Government over the disappearance of their baby daughter Azaria at Ayers Rock in August 1980. The couple, who have maintained their innocence through two inquests, a seven-week trial, two higher court appeals and Justice Morley’s 11 month Commission of Inquiry, say more is to come. “I’m not interested in a pardon for something I haven’t done,” Mrs Chamberlain told reporters after the pardon was announced. She said she and her husband would now battle the NT Government until her conviction for murder of Azaria was quashed.
