NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN (ALMOST)

22nd June, 1972 : An Israeli patrol making a reprisal raid into Lebanon was amazed to capture a Syrian general and four colonels from the intelligence service. They were the most senior Syrians to be taken since the Six-Day War in 1967. Israelis seized them when they stormed into the small village of Ramiyeh, a mile and a half from the frontier. Syria said the officers were on an exchange visit to the Lebanese Army. Israel struck by land and air at PLO bases in revenge for the terror attack on Lod Airport last month.
