16th July, 1909 : The 12-year-old Crown Prince of Persia, Sultan Ahmed Mirza, was yesterday proclaimed Shah to enthusiastic cheers from crowds in Majlis Square. The move followed four days of widespread fighting in the streets of Teheran. The boy Shah, with Azad-ul-Mulk as Regent, will rule in place of his elder brother, Mohammad, who was deposed after turbulent two years by a revolution of the Nationalist Party, which resented his despotic behaviour. The former Shah sought protection in the Russian Legation following the surrender of his Persian Cossack forces.

[Oh, those Russians!]
