NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN (ALMOST)

25th July, 1907 : Rioting is expected in Korea in reaction to the signing in Seoul of new agreements, which give absolute power over all local administration to the Japanese Resident General in Seoul. Korean Government will be compelled to follow his guidance in all administrative matters. He will recruit Japanese officials to reorganise courts of justice in a country where no legal code exists. Rioting began after the Japanese insisted upon the abdication of the Emperor of Korea. It was harshly suppressed and ringleaders executed.
