grivas

26st May, 1956 : Poster appeared throughout Cyprus today offering a reward of £10,000 for the capture of Colonel George Grivas, the Greek born leader of EOKA terrorist movement. Informants are promised protective custody and a passage to ‘anywhere in the world’. Colonel Grivas, whose orders are signed “Digenis” – which means “two peoples” – was the resistance leader during the German occupation of Greece. An ardent nationalist, he achieved notoriety for his savagery against many Communist prisoners during the Greek civil war.

[No Nobel Peace Prize for him.]
