NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN (ALMOST)

1973-crash-tupolev-goussainville5th June, 1973 : Tragedy struck at the Paris International Air Show yesterday when the main attraction, a Russian Tupolev-144 supersonic airliner, exploded in mid-air, killing its six crew immediately. Nine more were killed and 28 injured when fragments of the wrecked aircraft landed on the nearby town of Goussainville. Experts say that pilot error was almost certainly to blame for the disaster.
