polpot.china29th September, 1977 : Pol Pot, the enigmatic leader of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, arrived in Peking today for talks with Hua Kuo-feng, who is both Prime Minister of China and Chairman of the Communist Party. Pol Pot’s visit is the first he has made outside Cambodia since the end of the war in Indo-China. His rule in Cambodia is absolute and is enforced ruthlessly. Refugees fleeing across the border tell horrific stories of the annihilation of the country’s middle class. The reason for his visit is to discuss aid from China and it underscores the increasing cooperation between the two countries.

[Somehow we missed it in September, but it still serves as a good illustration that the Communist rulers of China have always supported the enemies of mankind. Nothing changes.]
