Dog-less dogma

…from the quill of Antisthenes the Younger

We, that is the western civilisation, pride ourselves on our tolerance, or at least we used to. Now one can get confused when the PC brigades intolerantly demand tolerance of any possible aberration under the sun, the more likely to corrupt the Western societies the better. One can hope that the current political correctness is only a faddish oriental deviation, which will pass when people come to their senses.

In the meantime, the unconditional admiration and tolerance of all other-than-democratic political systems, and of societies which could hardly be called civilisations in the normal meaning of the word, (a flat-screen TV, iPod or Twitter is not civilisation) prolong the suffering of people who have to live within.

I mentioned Twitter – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei took to Twitter on Saturday where he unleashed a string of vitriolic tweets against Israel. In one of the tweets Khamenei writes: “This barbaric, wolflike & infanticidal regime of Israel which spares no crime has no cure but to be annihilated.”

From wolfs to dogs – PETA and assorted animal rights activistas undoubtedly rejoice at the following news, which confirms how how close they are to the Islamic dogma.

From Michelle Grossman of Jerusalem Post:

… in Iran, lawmakers are trying to pass a new bill that would harshly punish anyone who buys, sells or walks a dog in public with either a fine ranging from 10 to 100 million rials or 74 lashes, according to a report by the National Council of Resistance of Iran.

… a law like this would chastise “[a]nyone who takes a pet like a monkey or a dog in public and damages the Islamic culture or the health and tranquillity of the people – particularly children and women.”

In addition to physical or monetary discipline, the pets would be taken away and put in a zoo or what is described as “a desert,” with the owner footing the bill for the animal’s transfer. …

In the past year, Iranians have been punished for “crimes” that go against the conservative Iranian laws. … on Sunday, a British-Iranian woman was sentenced to a year in jail for attending a volleyball game.

No music, no wolfs, no monkeys, no dogs, no volleyball… What’s left for amusement?

About Antisthenes

A Greek philosopher, a pupil of Socrates. Led a revolt, with Diogenes, against the demands of the city-state and the sophistication of life. Accepted the interrelation of knowledge, virtue, and happiness; and sought the ideal condition for happiness in return to primitivism and self-sufficiency. Rejected all social distinctions as based on convention, scorned orthodox religion as a fabrication of lies, and studied early legends and animal life in order to arrive at a true understanding of natural law. The individual was free and self-sufficient when he was master of his passions, secure in his intelligence, impervious to social or religious demands, and satisfied with the poverty of a mendicant. Needless to say, a person who on the Fog of Chaos adopted the Athenian philosopher's name has nothing whatsoever in common with him.

It will need more than blogs and twitters to stop this rot. But, is it worth it? Most people do not care.
