21st April, 1914 : A force of US Marines and bluejackets, 3,000 strong, today landed and seized the Mexican port of Vera Cruz. Fighting continues. So far the Americans have lost four men with 20 wounded, while the Mexican federal army garrison is reported to have lost 200 men. The reason for the US landing is not known with certainty, but it is believed that President Wilson wanted to prevent German arms and munitions being shipped to General Huerta, the Mexican President who is under attack by revolutionary armies, because Wilson strongly disapproves of Huerta.

It is feared that the landing of US Marines could lead to war between the US and Mexico.
