4th August, 1978 : A British magistrate’s court today heard Jeremy Thorpe, the former Liberal leader, deny that he had homosexual affair with a man he had allegedly plotted to have killed. Thorpe and three other men are accused of conspiring to kill Norman Scott, a former male model. Thorpe has denied making payment of 5,000 to a former airline pilot, Andrew Newton, who claims that he was hired to kill Scott. He admitted befriending Scott, but says his compassion and kindness was repaid with “malevolence and resentment”.

[ Mr Thorpe had been found not guilty at the end. Justice? Who knows. A typical politician? Yes.]
