NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN (ALMOST)

15th October, 1901: The anthropologist Walter Baldwin Spencer has made the first film of Aboriginal rites during an expedition that has taken him from Oodnadatta, South Australia to the Gulf of Carpentaria. Mr Spencer has battled heat and dust to shoot 3,000 feet of film, developing it in makeshift darkrooms along the way. He and his companion, Frank Gillen, have also recorded Aboriginal songs.
