White,Star.line13th January, 1908 : The price of travel across the Atlantic is falling sharply as the two main shipping lines, White Star and Cunard, battle it out to attract more passengers. Both lines have recently cut their fares twice so that second-class tickets have fallen by as much as 45 shillings and third-class by 30 shillings. The prize in the battle is the third-class passenger market now dominated by Cunard, which carried 86,000 such passengers across the Atlantic last year.
