16th January, 1916 : Soldiers in the army of rebel General Pancho Villa have murdered 18 Americans. Most of the dead men worked for an American-owned mine. They were taken off a train 50 miles west of Chihuahua, stripped naked, lined up against the train and shot. One passenger, Thomas Holmes, managed to escape by hiding in a lavatory. Troops under General Carranza have already captured and condemned to death the men responsible and one of Villa’s Generals has been shot.
