Women now and then

…from the quill of Antisthenes the Younger

I hope that you noticed NNUS today. The old journalists’ writings are not selected in haphazard, or chaotic way.

I never heard of Professor W I Thomas (1863 – 1947) before, so I tried some limited (Wiki) checking. There was more to him than meets the superficial glance and I suggest you read about him and in particular about his treatment by the establishment.

I trust that women did not get offended. Any ayatollah worth his weight in decapitated imams (or vice versa; this peaceful disagreement inside the world’s most peaceful religion between peaceful Shia and even more peaceful Sunni still confuses me) would agree with professor Thomas. After all, it is in the Koran. The feministas, the self-described fearless defenders of women rights everywhere, with some exceptions F/Chaos Shades of grey, would have to agree also. So why should women get insulted?

About Antisthenes

A Greek philosopher, a pupil of Socrates. Led a revolt, with Diogenes, against the demands of the city-state and the sophistication of life. Accepted the interrelation of knowledge, virtue, and happiness; and sought the ideal condition for happiness in return to primitivism and self-sufficiency. Rejected all social distinctions as based on convention, scorned orthodox religion as a fabrication of lies, and studied early legends and animal life in order to arrive at a true understanding of natural law. The individual was free and self-sufficient when he was master of his passions, secure in his intelligence, impervious to social or religious demands, and satisfied with the poverty of a mendicant. Needless to say, a person who on the Fog of Chaos adopted the Athenian philosopher's name has nothing whatsoever in common with him.

Women in Switzerland could not even vote until the mid 1970s and most people consider that country emancipated.
Scott Adams (author of Gilbert cartoons) has displayed probably the most sober view of the political process including the gender aspect (http://blog.dilbert.com/post/137689680866/the-gender-card-top).
The Americans shall be free at last from the yolk of oppression by lefties minority just about a year from today.

All women feel more comfortable in a burqa.
