16th February, 1903 : How porcelain could be used to restore teeth was disclosed to 2,000 American dentists today at the 15th anniversary meeting of the Orthontographic Society of Chicago. Porcelain can replace the more expensive gold, silver or amalgam of other metals when filling teeth. The new method of fitting porcelain faces to broken crowns has also been expounded within the last month by Carl Schelling, a British dentist. Despite the obvious advantages of using cheaper material for dental repairs, some reservations have been expressed. These arose partly because the first patient still had gold backing the porcelain face.
