24th February, 1903 : A detachment of the British field force operating against the the “Mad” Mullah in Italian Somaliland struck from the Indian Ocean port of Obbia today. Commanded by General Manning, who is accompanied by Count Lovateli, the Italian representative, the flying column includes the Punjab Mounted Infantry and the Camel Corps.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe Mullah, Mohammed bin Abdullah, who claims to possess supernatural powers, first caused trouble when he began raiding tribes friendly to the British. Calling himself Mahdi, or Messiah, he believes he is destined to convert others to Islam. After clashes with the British he fled into Italian territory and lay low for two years until the raids began again recently. Though General Manning’s force is driving west into the interior, the Mullah’s present whereabouts is unknown.

[ Again, the good old times. Now, the Mullah and his spawn are everywhere, protected, aided and abetted by progies, who somehow believe that that would save their clitorises and make their fall from high buildings painless. ]
