13th December, 1924 : Almost 400 lots were up for grabs at Canberra yesterday. The land sold for an average £30 a square foot, but purchasers will only have to pay a yearly rental of five percent, as the prices were only to fix capital value. Canberra has excellent electricity, water and sewerage facilities and an auctioneer predicted 10,000 people would be living there within ten years. Canberra would also be a great health resort.
